Gold was discovered in Osceola in 1872 and two ditches were built to bring in water for hydraulic mining. Most mining stopped in 1900, but there are still a few miners in the area trying their luck. At one time, about 1500 people lived here.
There isn't much left of the original town of Osceola, Nevada, except the cemetery and one stone ruin, but some more modern sheds are there from recent mining activity
