Birthing stone at White Mountains Petroglyph area in the Red Desert of Wyoming.
Handholds worn in the rock may have been used to grip the rock during labor.
Shoshone people, 1100 - 1800 AD
Other petroglyphs in the area depict animals inside other animals. This may reinforce the idea that this place was a sacred birthing ground.
